Chang Fee Ming- Mekong: Exploring the Source

FOREWORD
By Raja Nazrin Shah

A man of few words, Chang Fee Ming has the ability to speak volumes through his paintings. This self-taught artist possesses the innate ability to appreciate and empathise with different people
and cultures, describing the reality of their situations with the strokes of his paintbrush.

A thinker whose thoughts are beautifully laid on the picture surface, he reminds us of the beauty of our own country and the culture we have inherited. He captures the richness and diversity of other people and their ways of life, educating us through his art. Constantly trying to find connections between cultures, his work challenges us to look beyond our differences.

He sees that the world, and our region especially, is undergoing a time of complex change, yet takes pains to show us how precious and beautiful our heritage is, and how strong people are in the face of change.

Fee Ming sets high standards for himself. He has pushed the possibilities of the watercolour medium, constantly refining and developing his technique to adapt to new subjects and environments. This new exhibition, Mekong: Exploring the Source is a result of that will to push further, of following through a journey that began with an exploration of the northern peninsular of Southeast Asia and going beyond , following the Mekong river upstream
towards its source.

This showcase brings new approaches in a powerful narrative of Tibetan life as seen through the artist's eyes. Journeying through a very different landscape from ours, Fee Ming's resilience and spiritual strength are translated into his watercolour paintings.
